Evolution Mining’s Red Lake Operations Mine Rescue team has secured the overall win at the 2026 Red Lake District Mine Rescue Competition, held from 5 to 7 May.
Hosted by Evolution, the event brought together emergency response teams from across the region, including West Red Lake, Impala Lac des Iles Mine, Orla Mining’s Musselwhite Operations, and Coeur Mining’s Rainy River site. The competition took place at Cochenour Arena and featured a series of realistic, high-pressure underground emergency scenarios.
Participating teams were evaluated on a range of critical skills, including underground search and rescue, firefighting, first aid, and personnel recovery. In addition to the overall title, the Evolution team also earned top honours in the First Aid, Technician, and Multiple-Choice Quiz categories.
The Red Lake team will now advance to the Provincial Mine Rescue Competition in Sudbury from 10 to 12 June, where they will represent the Red Lake District.
Red Lake Operations Emergency Response Coordinator Chris Leroux emphasised the importance of the competition in maintaining strong emergency preparedness across the mining sector.
“These competitions are an invaluable opportunity to test and strengthen our emergency response capabilities in collaboration with neighbouring mines,” he said. “They promote continuous improvement while reinforcing the skills needed to respond effectively both onsite and within the broader community.”
