Ernest Henry Operations pulls together $80,000 for Starlight Children’s Foundation

Our Ernest Henry Operations, led by D Crew, once again delivered an unforgettable night of fundraising, community spirit and fierce competition at the sixth annual Tug of War event, raising a whopping $80,000 for Starlight Children’s Foundation (Starlight).

The much-anticipated event brought Ernest Henry employees, contractors and local businesses together to raise valuable funds for this important charity, a $20,000 increase on last year’s fundraising efforts.

This donation will help support thousands of seriously ill children and their families, helping Starlight continue delivering happiness, joy and support to children doing it tough across Australia.

The night featured plenty of friendly rivalry as teams battled it out for tug of war glory. Taking back the coveted trophy this year was Bessell’s Tug Masters (Production), who powered their way to victory with their usual grit and determination after last year’s reigning champions, the Mobile Maintenance Team, were dethroned. Finishing as runners-up on the night was the Electrical team.

This year also marked D Crew’s fourth consecutive year supporting Starlight, with the event now raising more than $224,000 for the charity.

The success of the fundraising event continues to be made possible through the generosity of sponsors and the ongoing support of Ernest Henry Operations employees and contractors and local businesses and community members, who dig deep every year to support such a worthy cause and help create a memorable night for everyone involved.

A special highlight of this year’s event was welcoming a Starlight child and his family to site, together with a Starlight representative. During their visit, they had two full days of surface, underground and concentrator tours, giving them a firsthand look at our Ernest Henry Operations.

Chief Operating Officer Matt O’Neill said, “The Ernest Henry team has built an enduring relationship with Starlight and are proud of the work that they do together.

“Each year this event builds on the last, with more people getting involved in fundraising, and being part of the big night. It is inspiring to see the site’s commitment to making a real difference to organisations like Starlight and the people the charity supports.

“These fundraising efforts are a credit to Ernest Henry, in particular D Crew, who came up with the idea and invest considerable time and effort to organise this annual fundraising event. In the words of our people: it’s a great thing the team has got going on at Ernest Henry, supporting the kids together with Starlight.”

The annual Tug of War fundraiser has become a standout event on the Ernest Henry Operations calendar, showcasing the generosity, mateship and community spirit that continues to drive the Ernest Henry workforce to make a meaningful difference.

We also attended the annual Starlight Children’s Foundation Dinner in Brisbane, contributing a further $10,000 to enable a family to stay in a Gold Coast property to have a relaxing break.
