Guinness World Record set for gold panning at West Wyalong

On 14 October 2023, West Wyalong broke the Guinness World Record for most people gold panning simultaneously at the Evolution Mining Hearts of Gold attempt, with 268 people participating in gold panning for 30 minutes.

Breaking the record enabled locals and visitors to be part of West Wyalong history and heritage. West Wyalong was established on a series of gold mines, with the town officially laid out and developed in 1895 after Joseph Neeld discovered gold. The event was held in the main street of West Wyalong, as a condition of the attempt was holding the event in a location where gold was once found.

This was an outcome of a proud partnership with the Bland Shire Council and the Hearts of Gold Committee.
