Our Emergency Response Teams (ERT) play a vital role across our business and within the communities where we operate, ensuring that on the rare occasion an incident occurs we have the best people in place to respond. The capability of our teams has been built over countless hours of training, development and practise, providing support for our people, neighbouring communities and to nearby companies with mutual aid agreements.

In March 2025, the Evolution Mines Rescue Challenge (MRC) returned for the first time since 2019 (post-COVID). Our Ernest Henry Operations welcomed ERT from Cowal, Northparkes and Mungari, with their own team also competing. In a chance for teams to navigate a near-real life scenario, ERTs deployed their training and were given the opportunity for learning, teamwork and collaboration.

Teams also participated in a community event at the Cloncurry Recreation Grounds, where they showcased their skills and composure to respond to a surprise event – a simulated nine-car road crash with around 20 casualties. It was observed by local high school students, emergency fire and ambulance services, ERT representatives from nearby mines, and Cloncurry community members.

The teams participated in numerous exercises that tested their skills and knowledge – theory, underground search and rescue, road crash rescue, firefighting, and vertical rescue. Each team excelled at a different scenario and the results were tight, emphasising the overall high quality of our ERTs, with our Mungari Operations victorious.
