Entry level mining training program provides opportunities at Red Lake

Red Lake expanded upon the impacts of their FY24 Mikinaak MineExcell Indigenous Participation and Employment Program with a new Entry level mining training program. It was successfully rolled out in FY25, with seven participants in the Program and six gaining employment with us upon completion.

Over 12 weeks, qualified local candidates completed the relevant modules for underground mining. The Program’s success would not be possible without our partners – the Red Lake Indian Friendship Centre, Lac Seul First Nation, Major Drilling and Byrnecut. They were integral to accommodating, educating, and certifying the trainees. This year’s success is an extension of the achievements in FY24, from which we took learnings regarding housing and contractor engagement and adapted this year’s Program to provide an uplift.

Red Lake’s Social Responsibility Superintendent Jamie Saulnier reflected that “Through this Program we’re delivering on what we’re saying, and providing real results for our people and local First Nations communities.”
