Our Ernest Henry Operations partnered with MMG Dugald River to support the inaugural 2024 Youth Week in Cloncurry, providing around 200 young people with a week of action-packed activities, including Superhero Sunday, a scavenger hunt, pool party, disco, movie night and colour blast.
Ernest Henry Sustainability Manager Merridy Case said the event was well-received by the community.
“It was a fantastic turn out, with the kids having a great time across a range of free activities,” she said. “It was great to collaborate with MMG to make the week a success and we received a lot of positive feedback from the community.”
Many of the communities in which we live and work rely on mining to sustain their livelihoods and find success, so Ernest Henry was glad to strengthen their relationships and collaboration with others nearby in the mining industry to bring shared positive impacts to the Cloncurry community.
We are committed to building the capability of our people and the communities within which they live. In FY24, Evolution sponsored Youth Without Borders’ Spark Engineering Camp in Brisbane, as part of our commitment to sustainability and education. The camp aims to provide students from non-traditional backgrounds, who may face barriers towards tertiary education, with experiences to grow and discover science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) pathways.
Evolution team members from Sustainability and Discovery joined a Graduate Panel, Mentor in a Minute session, barbecue dinner and ran a group activity to challenge students’ thinking on the relevance of mining to our current and future society. After some enlightening discussions and feedback including, “It was fun, informative, and inspiring!”, we hope to see a few of these faces across the industry in years to come.
