The creation of the Mt Perry Summit Nature Walk was the result of a partnership between Evolution, the Mt Perry Community Development Board, Gidarjil Development Corporation, North Burnett Regional Council, and QPWS. Throughout FY21, the walk was upgraded to a safe and marketable Class 3 Standard, signage was implemented, tourism and local economic development were stimulated, and training was provided to 15 local applicants while building the track.
In August 2021, the Mt Rawdon team officially launched the new and improved Mt Perry Summit Walk – a project resulting in the construction of a 3.5km Class 3 Standard walking trail. It was created by over 15 local indigenous trainees, with support from Evolution, expert rangers, and local partners from the Mt Perry Community Development Board, Gidarjil Development Corporation, North Burnett Regional Council and QPWS. The project can now be experienced and enjoyed with boots on the ground.
After two years of planning and a year of construction, the trail ended up being upgraded to a marketable Class 3 Standard, 15 local indigenous trainees were trained in land management and construction qualifications, and tourism increased. The walk is now open to the public who can witness the diverse vegetation communities from dry rainforest to fern-clad hillsides, and various fauna such as wallabies, koalas, short-beaked echidna, and the rainbow bee-eater.
MRO Sustainability Superintendent, Paul Wright, notes that “Everyone associated with the local area and Evolution Mining can be proud of this trail”
