Mining Matters Program with Balmertown and Wabauskang First Nation

In the summer of 2022, our Red Lake Operations hosted Mining Matters programs in Balmertown and Wabauskang First Nation. Mining Matters is a national charitable organisation dedicated to educating and equipping youth with knowledge and awareness of earth sciences, the minerals industry, and the role they play in society. The program teaches local youth about the diverse career opportunities in mining and generates excitement about rocks and minerals.

Facilitators took participants through a variety of activities over the three days, including headframe building competitions, cookie mining, geode smashing, rock walks and more. Several special guests from the mine also shared their stories and introduced the youth in Balmertown to the fun and interesting careers offered at our Red Lake Operations.
